Decor, Treats, Costumes & More!

There’s just something magical about Halloween. The start of cozy weather, the creative costumes, the fun decorations, excitement of trick-or-treating—it all adds up to one of the most fun and festive times of the year!

In our house, Halloween is more than just a single day. It’s a whole season of celebrating—from decorating our home to baking treats, making DIY projects, and coming up with fun family costume ideas! Whether you’re throwing a party, prepping for trick-or-treaters, or just making memories with your kids, this guide is packed with all our favorite Halloween traditions and ideas!

Festive Fall & Halloween Home Décor

My Halloween decorating theme? Neutral, cozy, cute, and just a little spooky! If you want to keep things practical, an easy hack is to bring in festive vibes by swapping out everyday items for seasonal touches, it completely transforms your space! Here are a few favorite ideas:

  • Vases filled with faux fall leaves and mini white pumpkins are the perfect subtle touch to bring the season indoors.
  • I added cozy candles around the house to set a warm autumn vibe, and a new favorite is this Candle Warmer. I love the soft glow it gives (and no open flame is actually a major plus when the kids are running around).
  • For the kids, I created a fun sensory bin activity using a plastic bin filled with dry black beans, ping pong eyeballs, skeleton pieces, and fun skeleton arms for scooping limbs lol into mini bowls. This is perfect to have out when we have little friends over, too!
  • I always love adding a cute garland along the mantel no matter what holiday it is! The mantel is actually one of my favorite spots to decorate in our home, there’s so much you can do in such a small spot! For Halloween, I also added a super fun cauldron filled with light-up “bubbles”, it was so cute, along with a few playful ghosts!
  • Don’t forget the little touches: Halloween hand towels, swapping decorative pillows for festive options, ghost-shaped cheese board, and kitchen towels with fun festive prints! I love finding fun things like this at TJ Maxx, they have great prices and such unique finds!
  • Fall greenery, wicker stacked pumpkins, and small fabric pumpkins for table decor are great options for an entryway. I love adding little touches guests can see right away, making things super welcoming and festive!

DIY Pumpkin Wreath

When you can’t find a Halloween wreath you love—make one!

GRAB THE WREATH SUPPLIES

I started by painting mini pumpkins in the perfect pastel orange color and then spray painted the stems gold to match more of our home decor. Using a wire wreath form wrapped in white ribbon, I started by hot gluing medium sized pink pumpkins in place (these were already the perfect color so I didn’t have to paint these). Then I filled the gaps with the smaller painted pumpkins and sparkly mini disco balls (seriously so cute and so sparkly). To finish it off, I added a cute bow for a festive touch! You can hang this on your front door or use a suction cup hook to place it on a mirror for an indoor focal piece. This was super easy to put together, I just worked on it over a few days when the kids were asleep, or when I had extra time! It turned out so unique and beautiful, I can’t wait to bring it out every year!

Spooky Snacks & Easy Treats

It’s not the holidays without some festive cute recipes! I love both of these because not only are they super quick and easy, but the kids love them too!

Jack-o’-Lantern Quesadillas

These adorable Halloween quesadillas are the easiest festive snack or lunch for kids! Cut out pumpkin shapes from tortillas, then carve triangle eyes and a smile to the top tortilla. Add shredded cheese between the layers and bake at 400°F for about 10 minutes until bubbly and golden. So fun and perfect all October long!

3-Ingredient Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

The ultimate fall cookie recipe—no fuss, no mess! Seriously the easiest dessert you’ll make all year! Mix together:

  • 1 box of Spice Cake Mix
  • 1 can of pumpkin purée
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

Scoop onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (less mess, thank you lol) and bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes. While these were baking, I also made a DIY cake stand using a dollar store plate and cup glued together with E6000—so cute for serving and displaying your festive treats. Pro tip: These cookies taste even better after a night in the fridge!

Halloween Teacher Gift Ideas

You can’t forget about the teachers this Halloween! My daughter so sweetly asked if we could put together Halloween gifts for all her teachers, and of course I said yes! I used little drink holders filled with yummy Halloween treats (because… duh, candy is a must this time of year!) and a few practical items too like a reusable plastic cup, and a cute skeleton that can double as classroom decor! It was such a simple but thoughtful way to let our teachers know we appreciate them during this festive season. For more teacher gift inspiration, check out my full blog post HERE!

DIY Halloween S’mores Kits for Neighbors or Friends

Spreading the Halloween spirit to your neighborhood has never been easier (or cuter) with these Boo Boxes! We used super simple boxes from Amazon and filled them with classic s’mores supplies:

  • Marshmallows
  • Tony’s Chocolonely bars
  • Graham crackers

Wrapped it all up with a festive ribbon, mini pumpkin, and a custom-made Halloween tag using Canva. You can use my Canva template HERE! Such a sweet way to surprise friends or neighbors and share some seasonal cheer!

Family Costume Ideas: Cute, Creative, and Memorable

Family costumes are one of our favorite traditions! It’s always a little chaotic but so worth it in the end. Here are two adorable ideas we’ve done:

Cotton Candy Family Costume

Making our own Halloween costume always feels so nostalgic—it reminds me of how we always made costumes growing up! One of my favorite themes we did (ok, they’re all my favorite lol) were these matching cotton candy costumes. Yes, it took 200 hot glue sticks and a few late nights after the kids were asleep, but seeing the final look made it all worth it. I’ll dress up with my kids for as long as they’ll let me, and we’re going on year five so far. These costumes were a labor of love but turned out so dang cute!

Bubble Bath Family Costume

This one was my husband’s idea—and it turned out better than I could have imagined! Our toddler was the cutest little rubber ducky, our daughter was in a bath bucket surrounded by ‘bubbles’ that were actually ornaments lol, I was a loofah, and my husband was a bar of soap haha! We bought some of the pieces and then added special touches ourselves, which I think made the entire thing perfect! We glued what felt like a million “bubbles”, styled every detail, and just had the best time building it as a family. Each year, I’m so grateful we take the time to do this!

Halloween can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’re decorating your home, baking treats, making memories with costumes, or gifting to others, remember it’s all about having fun and embracing the magic of the season!
