The Cutest Thanksgiving Ideas: Kids Table & Mini Pie Bar

Thanksgiving is such a special holiday in our house! Between the food, the family time, and the traditions, it’s one of those days I look forward to all year. Last year, we hosted, and I wanted to share two of my favorite ways we made the holiday extra fun and memorable: setting up a festive Kids Thanksgiving Table and creating the easiest (and cutest) Mini Pie Bar for dessert! Both are simple to pull together, but they make such a big impact for guests of all ages!

A Thanksgiving Kids Table That’s Actually Fun

When I was little, I loved sitting at the kids table with my cousins. It felt like our own special club during Thanksgiving dinner, and we had the freedom to laugh, trade food, and be a little silly without the watchful eyes of adults. This year, I wanted to recreate that same joy for my kids and their cousins by setting up a Thanksgiving kids table that’s equal parts fun and functional.

We started with one of our go-to party hacks: covering the table in a heavy-duty paper drop cloth from Home Depot. It’s thick, inexpensive, and the best part? The kids can color all over it without anyone worrying about a mess! I even love to grab a sharpie or marker and write their names directly on the paper so everyone has their own assigned spot.

To make the space feel more festive, we added Thanksgiving-themed coloring placemats that let each child write down what they’re thankful for this year. It’s such a sweet way to get kids thinking about gratitude while keeping them busy. Each place setting also got a fresh pack of Crayola crayons —an absolute must for keeping little hands entertained.

For tableware, we used pumpkin pie cups for drinks, sectioned plates that are perfect for keeping Thanksgiving foods separate (because kids can be picky about their food touching), and even rechargeable table lights to give the whole setup a little “restaurant” vibe. The lights were such a fun touch—when the kids saw them, they felt like they had their own VIP dinner space!

I also set up a smaller toddler table for the littlest ones and a bigger table for the older kids. Having different levels made it easier for everyone to feel comfortable and included. The kids are already so excited to gather at their table, and honestly, it was so fun putting this together for them.

Other fun add-ons for a kids table:

  • A “thankful jar” where kids can drop in notes throughout the evening.

  • DIY turkey crowns or pilgrim hats to color and wear.

  • Small snack cups at each spot for quick bites before the big meal.

All of these little details help turn a simple table into a memory-making space that the kids will talk about for years.

The Easiest Mini Pie Bar

After hours of cooking a Thanksgiving feast, the last thing I want to do is bake a bunch of pies. But let’s be honest—Thanksgiving without pie just isn’t the same. Enter my new favorite solution: a Mini Pie Bar!

Instead of making everything from scratch, I picked up a few of our family’s favorite pre-made pies from the store. To make them easier (and less messy) for little ones, I used a mini pie cutter to portion each pie into bite-sized servings. It’s brilliant for a few reasons: less waste, smaller messes, and everyone gets to try a variety of flavors without committing to a giant slice.

We styled the pie bar on a side table so it felt separate and special from the main meal. To decorate, I layered a white gauze cheesecloth runner across the table with some pumpkins and faux leaves, added some artificial eucalyptus stems to a vase, and hung a festive pumpkin pie banner on the wall behind the table. Each type of pie was served on its own mini wooden cutting board, which made it easy for guests to see all their options, and even walk around to chat while enjoying dessert!

And because no pie is complete without it, we had plenty of Reddi Whip on hand. My kids think the “whoosh” sound is the best part of Thanksgiving, and honestly, it’s a tradition I love too. Dessert feels instantly fun when everyone is laughing and topping their pies with way too much whipped cream.

To finish off the setup, I added cute to-go containers so guests could pack up an extra portion or two to take home. It’s a genius way to cut down on waste while sending a little love home with everyone.

Ideas to expand your pie bar:

  • Include a few non-pie options like cookies or brownies for non-traditional dessert lovers.

  • Offer a variety of pies like pumpkin, pecan, apple, and chocolate cream.

  • Add toppings like caramel drizzle, crushed nuts, or cinnamon sugar.

Final Thoughts

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be stressful to feel special. With a little creativity, you can create spaces and traditions that keep the kids happy and the adults impressed. The kids table brings joy, creativity, and connection for the little ones, while the mini pie bar adds a stylish yet practical touch that makes dessert fun and easy.

At the end of the day, it’s these thoughtful touches—not perfection—that make Thanksgiving memorable. Whether you’re hosting for a big extended family or keeping it small, these simple ideas will help you celebrate with ease and a little extra magic!

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition, I’d love to hear about it!
