A Simple & Organized Way to Treasure Their Memories
One of the smartest things I’ve ever made as a mom? Keepsake boxes for my kids! These boxes are perfect for storing all those special mementos—report cards, school pictures, artwork, health records, cards, and all the little treasures that I just can’t part with.
Instead of shoving everything into a random drawer or letting it pile up in different places, these keepsake boxes keep everything organized, protected, and easy to find. Plus, they’re such a sweet way to look back on your child’s journey over the years!

Creating these boxes is super simple, and you only need a few supplies! Here’s how I put mine together:
Step 1: Choose a Storage Box
I used clear plastic file storage boxes with lids. These are sturdy, stackable, and make it easy to see what’s inside. The lid keeps everything dust-free and protected, and the size is perfect for holding standard documents, artwork, and keepsakes.
Step 2: Add Hanging File Folders
Inside each box, I use hanging file folders to organize everything. You can either use a label maker or just write on the label tabs that come with the file folders. I like to use different colors for different categories, but that’s totally optional!
Step 3: Organize by Category
I’ve found that breaking the folders into general categories and age-based sections works best. Here’s how I organize mine:

This is the keepsake box I made for my Sister’s sweet new baby boy! I’m so excited to gift this to her for all of his upcoming memories and special moments! This is honestly one of my most favorite things to gift, I’ve made them for a few friends and family members!

Step 4: Personalize the Box
To make them extra special, I added vinyl letters with my kids’ names on the front and top of the box. I used my Cricut for this, but you can also buy pre-made vinyl decals or just use stickers! For a fun touch, I placed a patterned folder in the front of each box, since the storage boxes are clear. It’s such a cute way to add personality, and I love that I can swap out the design as styles change!
